Phantom Orchid–“Love is a Killing Thing”

Broken-hearted heroes / Listen to me
I think you’ll find what’s on my mind / Of interest if you please
Here’s a pocket full of trouble / And a hat full of rain
For the loneliness of an empty bed / Where I can find no rest
.
Love, oh love, is a killing thing / Love, oh love, is a killing thing
It’ll make you crawl, it’ll make you sting
Love is a killing thing
.
I have scaled the battlements / Hoping to climb
Sharpened all my edges / And opened up my mind
To reach these heights I see you stride / And to be right there, by your side
Like a battle-weary soldier / Before the walls of Troy
.
Love, oh love, is a killing thing / Love, oh love, is a killing thing
It’ll make you choke, it’ll make you sting
Love is a killing thing
.
I wish my love was a winderwild / Sitting on the garden wall
And I to be a drop of dew / And around her breast I’d fall
Into my love’s arms / All with great sport and play
And we’d rowl about the long winter night / And ne’er think long of the day
.
Love, oh love, is a killing thing / Love, oh love, is a killing thing
It’ll make you crawl, it’ll make you sing
Love is a killing thing
.
And we have found solid ground / Anchored in the bay
Partners in conspiracy / These dangerous days
And not to be afraid of the way you feel
And to see the flowers of May / Bloom in the high mountain fields
.
Love, oh love, is a living thing / Love, oh love, is a living thing
Your open arms are beckoning
Love is a living thing
.
