The Invasion of the Lands of the Dead - Claiming it for Marind Bell and the East

5 November 2026 · set down by Chewett (MD) · 21 readings

The East Marches
At the Gazebo of Equilibrium, Chewett gathered friends, allies, opportunists, and anyone else willing to participate in what was rapidly becoming an extremely questionable military operation.

For too long, access to the newly opened lands had been uncertain. People had asked how to enter, some had apparently been offended merely for asking, and the Mad King of Marind Bell and Grand Duke of the East had decided that this injustice would continue no longer.

The assembled crowd were given their orders.
“CAUSE HAVOK. INVADE. AND BLAME MUR.”

And so the invasion began!

Seemingly out of nowhere people started brandishing weapons, some even were attempting to aim dragons at each other. However most importantly Chewett continued to remind people that Mur had planned this entire thing.

The crowd poured into the Dead land, charging through its newly opened scenes and exploring whatever they could reach. Samon led the cries of “For Mur!”, Aksel urged everyone forward, and even those who had forgotten their pitchforks joined the march.

Chewett moved through the new land declaring each scene claimed in the name of Marind Bell and the Lands of the East, ensuring that there could be absolutely no ambiguity about this entirely legitimate territorial acquisition.

Ledah assisted with the formal process by spreading his distinctly fishy smell throughout the territory, thereby providing the East with an unconventional but remarkably persistent method of marking its new borders.

Not everyone responded to events with quite the same enthusiasm. Sephirah Caelum took her rosary and prayed.

Others fought. MRAlyon destroyed Chewett and conquered Ledah. Sunfire cut down several members of the expedition. Travellers became lost, jumped between locations, discovered creatures they probably weren't supposed to find, and generally explored the newly liberated territory with the restraint expected of a MagicDuel invasion.

Through it all, Chewett continued to insist that the entire affair was Mur's doing. The Lands of the East Legal Team had apparently advised him to make that very clear.

Eventually the invasion became something more permanent. Ledah suggested another addition to his increasingly unreasonable collection of titles:
King of Marind Bell, the Dead, and Grand Duke of the East.

Chewett liked it.

Despite claiming the Dead, Chewett did not intend to hoard every part of it. He recognised that Necrovion held a strong claim to Berserker's Charge, and proposed that stewardship of the scene, together with the neighbouring mausoleum and tomb, should pass to Necrovion. Samon thanked the Duke, Chewett bowed, and declared it an honour to have liberated the land alongside him.

Ledah called it a glorious day.
Sunfire predicted that historians would write books and bards would write songs.
Samon suggested that perhaps the occasion should even be preserved in the Adventure Log.
Chewett, apparently already being far too sneaky, merely advised patience.

Thus the invasion ended not simply with exploration, but with borders claimed, territories distributed, decrees issued, people killed, prayers offered, and Ledah's smell spread across a disturbing amount of previously unspoiled ground.

The Mad King of Marind Bell and Grand Duke of the East had claimed the Dead.

Some of it would be entrusted to others.

The rest was now, apparently, an administrative problem.

And, for the avoidance of any legal doubt:

Mur planned all of this.
