Read on ›The Third Annual MagicDuel Awards took place in Sage's Keep and were hosted by Grido, dst, and Awiiya.
Although the awards themselves were surrounded by a bit of controversy over the fairness and accuracy of the results, they do provide a type of review of the major characters in the game in the past year. By no means were all the people who deserved to be recognized nominated or named; this article and the award ceremony, in general, is meant to be taken with a grain of salt.
The winners present were asked to give acceptance speeches. What follows is a record of the winners and their words.
The Adventuring Award was given to the player who was most active in quests or the one who simply persevered the most.
2010 winner: dst
"I am supposed to deliver a speech but I am not good with words so I will be short.
So... Thank you for voting and blah blah blah blah and Grido, I will get you for starting with this award, although I said I am not ready. I must also thank my brain and my stubbornness for this award *kisses her brain*
And yeah, I'm done *sits down*"
Best Artist was awarded to the player who had shown themselves to be a talented artist with contributions towards the realm and its inhabitants.
2010 winner: Marvolo
"I'm very very very happy :D And I find it nice to see my work get noticed :D Rofl, seriously, I'm out of words. I'll make an artwork about global warming and whales :P
But, really, thanks to those who voted. It means a lot."
The Best Back Story/Paragon Papers was awarded to the player with the best presented papers and back story.
2010 winner: Innocence
Innocence was not present to a give a speech at the time of awarding.
The Best Quote award was given to the player for the best thing said, somewhere MD related.
2010 winner: GlorDamar
GlorDamar was not present to give a speech at the time of awarding.
The Best Spell Caster award was given to player who exceled at whatever the MagidDuel population defined as "good spell casting." It's a bit ambiguous.
2010 winner: Jester
Jester was not present to give a speech at the time of awarding.
The Champion Fighter award was given to the best fighter in the realm.
2010 winner: Burns
"You realize what a weak year this was? I get an award while spending half the year in the army. Anyways, thanks a lot. :) I'll keep on inventing cruel fighting quests and badass combat areas when I'm back... in 4 days :D Thanks to all of you =)"
The Elite Evil Villain of the Year was given to the most villainous of the villains out there.
2010 winner: dst
"This award should go to No One. Without him, I would have never ever been so evil. I will be a good villain :D And no, I did not mess with the votes. If I had, then No One would have won :D Oh, and I should thank you also, because without you, I would have had nobody to torture :D"
The Fossil of the Year award was given to the best player on the Active Veterans list.
2010 winner: Grido
"*Grido hits dst with a walking stick*
Right, all you young whipper-snappers. *Grido looks over at Zleip and hits him with the stick, too. Grido does a little side-to-side hop.*
So, yes, I am old and I have all my memory still, as anyone who's talked to me can attest to! *waits for jibe*"
The Helper of the Year award was given to the player who most significantly assisted others.
2010 winner: Mya Celestia
"Gee, I don't know what to say. I like to help. *smiles*
*giggles* Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart.
*nudges Grido* We're happy to help. *giggles*"
The Most Addicted award was given to the player who simply couldn't get away from the realm.
2010 winner: dst
"I wish to thank my bosses, who never stressed me with too much work. I wish to thank one of the phone providers in Romania for providing me a modem to be online everywhere, anywhere. I wish to thank the Wheals for existing and to the ozone layer for still being there. I wish for the end of world hunger and of course...world peace! This is probably the only award I truly deserve.
And one last thanks to my keyboard, who keeps sabotageing me. And that's it.
The End"
The Most Influential award was given to most influential player.
2010 winner: Awiiya
"Thank you, thank you. I do, of course, have a speech bouncing around in my head as it is my habit to talk. Often too much.
I had the pleasure, this year, of counting the votes, and while it was an exciting and thrilling process, it also meant that I had to think for weeks about what I was to say to all of you.
If I am to be perfectly honest, there are so many people, and their spheres of influence so powerful, it seems hardly fair that one person can win. Fair is hardly the nature of life, though, and if I could make it so that all of the people who deserved it, all of you would be the proud recipient of this award.
Because that's the truth--if I have influenced or inspired any of you, you have yourselves to thank. So give yourself a pat on the back. This relationship is wonderfully symbiotic. As all truly longlasting relationships in nature, this tree has you to thank for the moisture in my roots and the heat in my canopy. I hope my shade may grow vast as the years go by, soaking up what is offered and bearing fruit for those who tend me in equal measure.
That is all."
The Outstanding Service to MD was given to the player who gave the most back to the realm.
2010 winner: Rendril Revant
"I would like to thank everyone here. You are what makes MD, MD."
The Pre-eminent Roleplayer was given to the most talented roleplayer around.
2010 winner: Zleipneir
"Well this is the one award that I am really the most honored I could possibly be to have been given. I still, after my many years here, appreciate every single person here, enemies, friends, all of you. You make my life a better place to be, and this award really has made me incredibly happy. Thank you so much."
The Prime Quest was given to the quest creator whose quest appealed to the largest number of people.
2010 winner: Fryd Argentus
"Thank you!
I tried to follow in the footsteps of my hero, the person who did so much to enhance the realm before me. That being Cutler, my hero. I have much to live up to there, but it is inspiring. Woohoo! Thanks, again."
The Rookie of the Year was given to the most popular player who has joined within the last year.
2010 winner: Curiose
"You're all a wonderful bunch, and I wouldn't give that up for the world. Not at all. This reward means more than just a medal in name, more than recognition by the community as a whole. But it means something more tangible to me than simply that. What exactly, I fear I cannot place into words. Everyone has taught me so much, and if I were able, I'd split this medal into all the bits and pieces that represent MD. You deserve it."
The Superlative Orator award was given to the player who debated best and most often.
2010 winner: Awiiya
"I have a speech prepared mentally, as it seems most words that come out impromptu feel a tad more personalized to the moment.
If anyone has visited me in the north, in my small nook by the side of the road to the MagicDuel Archives, they will have likely encountered two awful habits. One is that I'm horrendously disagreeable. If you say something, there's a high chance that I won't agree with it. The second is that I'm vocal about my opinions, so if I disagree, I'll let you know. These two habits combine to form a maelstrom of debate, and I rely a good deal on the good-natured responses of the person I'm talking with, Handy Pockets being the most agreeable I've found thus far. Judging by the fact that I have won this award, I'm guessing that a good portion of you know all this already, but sometimes reiteration is refreshing. So, this disagreeable and vocal tree would like to thank those who found fun in talking and discussing and never stopped chopping me down, no matter how many times I've said the words, "Are you sure?""
The Golden Protector was given to the protector that used their abilities best to protect and serve.
2010 winner: Amoran K Kol
Amoran K Kol was not present to give a speech at the time of awarding.
The Top Techy was given to the player that had the most comprehensive knowledge of MD's inner workings.
2010 winner: Rendril Revant
"I think this calls for more dancing!"
