The Seekers of Enlightenment was not an alliance given and asked for members like most. It was an alliance that was formed out of the group that was created around the phenomenon of the Angiens. Here is the history, from my point of view, as to how it was formed.
During the period when the Seekers of Enlightenment was formed, the Shades had appeared to Khalazdad, and both sides were readying armies to do battle. Wodin was training his troops and Khalazdad was recruiting soldiers for the recently-created Necrovion Sentinels. During this period of time there were lots of “bright” ideas, and people were running around, trying to discover things. One such initiative was a group of people centered on Angien's Ferry. Some people believed that if the Shades were going to start a war, otherworldly beings would be helpful in opposing them. Since there was so little information available about the Angiens, they seemed like saviours.
This group at Angien's Ferry slowly gained more people, and research began on a larger scale, with many people working on their own theories. I spent some time walking around and looking for more Angien-type structures and such. After talking with lots of different people, it turned out that there wasn’t really very much information about these strange creatures. During my time speaking with people, I met someone called Renavoid, who was also searching for information like this. We decided to join together to try to contact, or find more information about, these people. We spent some time talking and sharing our findings. Each day, we would return to Angien's Ferry to see what people had found. It was the place where everyone was gathering, and after a couple of days, a somewhat large crowd had gathered at Angien's Ferry.
This was when we managed to attract enough attention to attain a place in the Adventure Log. Page 128 [2008-07-16 00:33:53 - The Shade Balance - Sol. Others] A group of people under the initiative side effect gathered at the Angien's Ferry trying to contact the Angiens. Sol, Morrel, Blackthorn, GrandGhost, Aleron, Tremir, Eden, Aiedail and many others join their forces to find a way to contact the Angiens, creatures rumored to be of equal power with the Shades. Sol: "We should try harder... with such forces building up, only a very valuable knowledge will make the difference. I will camp here and watch the area, you guys go and search for more info on this."
Three of those mentioned here continued to research and finally joined the alliance when it was founded. As we gathered there, we understood that the Angiens would not show themselves by just us being there or shouting. Attempts to try to cross to the island were foolhardy and ended in failure. There was no obvious means of reaching them by going to them, so we stopped trying to go to them. The group of people were a loose collective, yet were generally all working together to collect news and information. At that time, beyond the knowledge that a few people had garnered, there was much speculation because there were no concrete facts.
Each day, different groups of people would come and have a look at what we were doing, but many core people kept coming back to the shrine. The forum was used for some people to share their views. Renavoid and I kept logs of what was happening and the other research that people had done.
Our initial beliefs about Angiens were that they were good creatures, similar to an angelic creature, representing light. From this point, we then went onto theorize that they were enemies to the Shades. This made sense initially with the information we had. But after a couple days of announcing what we believed, Khalazad gave us some rather conflicting information. He stated that the Angiens had already helped the Sentinals. Based on our initial beliefs, this was exceptionally strange as we believed they were the sworn enemies of the Shades. After a couple days of nothing, some people started to feel that the Angiens would not help us. Renavoid and I discussed this matter and decided that although they might not help, they would surely communicate in some way. Thus, we put effort into different ways of trying to contact them.
Morrel, along with others, decided that the Angiens needed to be contacted. We all spent a day or so releasing heat to try to contact them. We didn’t know if anything would come of it, so we waited with bated breath.
Page 130 [2008-07-16 04:08:39 - The Shade Balance - Others] Suddenly someone screams, "Look, look there, the lights!! ... white lights from the island .. its a sign! its a sign!!" Everybody swarms to their spyglasses and those who have none wait impatiently to get a look through one. The island is indeed sending out light signals. White spots of ..something ..rise from the ground heading towards the sky. "What is it??...what could it be?" Everybody starts making suppositions on the event. A little after this event, The Seekers were officially formed. Under my leadership, Renavoid and I contacted many of the most enthusiastic members of the researching team.
Page 131 [2008-07-16 05:28:55 - The Shade Balance - Others] Bound to worship Angiens, The Seekers of Enlightment guild has formed under leadership of *Chewett* and represents Marind's Bell. Out of the ruins of the old town there is nothing to defend or to fight for, nothing else but the hope itself that the town will be what it once was. Angiens have lived for so long in Marind's Town but in times of need they did not help anyone. The Seekers believe that they will discover the secrets of the Angiens and understand more about the world. They still represent their only hope and the most decisive advantage against the constant threat of the Shades. Angiens are dualist creatures, too complex to be understood by any normal human, but understanding them better will unfold secrets about the other parts involved in this, most of all the all-feared Shades.
Renavoid, however, didn’t join the alliance. He decided that his path was not necessarily in line with a specific research topic, and later went on to found the MagicDuel Archivists and write some of the Adventure Log.
Since founding, the alliance has been through many different periods. From once worshipping the Angiens, believing them to be good beings, we have learned enough about their nature to disprove original theories. We now research many different subjects.
